Junior Youth Empowerment Program

The program engages small groups of junior youth, those between the ages of 11 and 14, in settings that enable them to strengthen their power of expression, to explore profound themes and questions in group discussions, to participate in arts and crafts, storytelling, and engage in meaningful service to their community. The groups are guided by an older youth trained to serve as an animator. The program seeks to cultivate intellectual abilities and develop moral reasoning, helping junior youth develop a strong sense of purpose and the self-confidence to make sound decisions so that they live a fruitful and rewarding life, a life in which service takes centre stage.

The Power of Expression

Emphasis is placed on strengthening the acquisition of language -- vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and eloquent speech – with a view to enhancing critical thinking, sound decision-making, and the ability to express thoughts and ideas with clarity.

Mathematics

Attention is given to helping participants acquire a solid foundation in mathematical knowledge and to practice related skills. Particular attention is given to number sense, fractions, and algebra, ensuring that those in middle school are well prepared to enter high school.

Academic Excellence

The program aims to help junior youth be well prepared to enter high school. Participants study materials designed to develop intellectual capacity and strengthen academic performance. Providing help with homework and assignments and after-school tutoring are natural extensions of the program

Community Involvement

The program is designed around the idea of helping junior youth to develop their talents and abilities by contributing to the wellbeing and progress of their community. Participants research, consult, plan, and carry out small-scale projects that contribute to positive change in the community and help youth learn to participate effectively in its affairs.
